How to use heel lifters

September 10, 2024
Most ski touring bindings have heel lifters. The exceptions to this are ultra-light race bindings and old-fashioned bindings from the days of the ski touring pioneers.

Heel lifters are a great help when the terrain becomes steeper but using them on long, flat sections gets really uncomfortable. Constantly adjusting the heel lifter height interrupts your rhythm when walking and takes up a lot of time. High heel lifters also shorten your stride length. In practice, ski tourers must independently determine when a change is needed and efficient as they all have their own preferences with regard to heel lifter heights.
